ManneDesign Falcon R (Rock):
The ManneDesign Falcon R Special is an electric guitar with an unusual retro-shape and a simple, elegant finish. The sound character makes it an interesting alternative for many different kinds of rock, pop and jazz styles.
Two humbuckers with metal covers are fitted to the Falcon R. The clean mode in the test amplifier (Laboga Alligator Vollröhrencombo) initially show the moderate output of the pickups. This is a beutifully clean and undistorted sound. The neck pickup is slightly dark sounding with a distinct vintage touch. In combination with the solid one-piece mahogany body guitar it produces a sound that is similar to the semi-acoustic electric guitars. This can be used without problems for the accompaniment of jazz music, or styles like rock and pop. To get the sound of the cleans more modern you can activate both pickups at the same time. The warm tone then gets some presence and upper mids, which provides a harmonic and balanced sound.
If the bridge humbucker is used for soloing the sound is very wiry with a tidy low range. With the bridge pickup used as overdriven and distorted You can obtain very tight and good sounds. In positions of the Gain control on about ¼ a tidier and more present distortion sound is achieved, which is a good choice for blues and indie styles. When increasing gain level the sound becomes more open and covers a wider frequency range. For positions at ½, harmonious sounds are available, which therefore come very mellow with a proper proportion of presences.
If the gain knob is down in maximum position, the result is an even more open sound that is very suitable for hard rock, rock and American punk. The pickups of the guitar are not constructed for extreme distortion. Together with the strong vibration behavior of the one-piece mahogany body the pickups respond particularly well to dynamic playing with distortion. A simple but effective sound control is obtained by a master volume and tone knobs.
The playability of the Falcon R Special is really very good. The canadian rock maple neck is connected to the body in a way that just a small part of the rosewood fretboard is slotted in the body. In this way, the guitar can be played comfortably even at highest frets. In addition, the neck profile gives a comfortable and relaxed playability. Although the neck is done relatively wide, it has a relatively flat profile which allows guitar players with short fingers optimal grip and playability.
Workmanship and material quality of the guitar are at a very good level. the design and finish together with the well-executed white binding give the instrument an attractive and sophisticated appearance.
